Melting point 1185℃, density 4.80g/cm3 (14℃), Mohs hardness 1.0~1.5. It begins to decompose at 1370℃ 
And decomposes into metal molybdenum and sulfur at 1600℃. When heated in air at 315°C, 
it begins to be oxidized. As the temperature rises, the oxidation reaction accelerates. 
Molybdenum disulfide is insoluble in water, dilute acids and concentrated sulfuric acid. 
It is generally insoluble in other acids, alkalis and organic solvents, 
but is soluble in aqua regia and boiled concentrated sulfuric acid.

The main uses of Molybdenum Sulfide,:

Molybdenum disulfide is an important solid lubricant, especially suitable for use under high temperature and high pressure. 
It is also diamagnetic and can be used as a linear photoconductor and a semiconductor showing P-type or N-type conductivity, 
with the functions of rectification and energy conversion. 

Molybdenum disulfide can also be used as a catalyst for the dehydrogenation of complex hydrocarbons. 

Molybdenum disulfide covers the surface of the friction material, which can protect other materials 
and prevent them from being oxidized. In particular, it makes other materials less likely to fall off 
and enhances the adhesion force;
