Product Description
Potassium sorbate, also known as potassium 2,4-hexadienoate, is the potassium salt of sorbic acid, molecular formula C6H7O2K, colorless or white scaly crystals or crystalline powder. [1] Odorless or slightly odorless, easily absorbed moisture and oxidized and decomposed in air for a long time and change color. Easily soluble in water (67.6g/100mL20℃), soluble in propylene glycol (5.8g/l00mL) and ethanol (0.3g/10 mL). Potassium sorbate and sorbic acid are commonly used organic preservatives, widely used in food, chemical products, feed preservation. They are easy to be absorbed and metabolized by the human body, with no residue in the body and non-toxicity.
Application: As the least toxic food preservative, potassium sorbate is commonly used in the food and feed processing industries, as well as in cosmetics, cigarettes, resins, flavors and rubber. However, it is most widely used in food preservation and feed. Potassium sorbate is widely used as a food preservative. China approved its use in 1982 and issued a standard, stipulating that the concentration allowed to be used in pasta products, sauces, canned food, dried fruits, dairy products and seasonings is 0.02% to 0.1%. Adding 1% potassium sorbate to meat products can significantly inhibit the production of Clostridium botulinum toxin. Sorbic acid is also widely used in low alcoholic beverages such as fruit wines, beers and wines and has a favorable preservative effect. According to the International Food and Agriculture Organization (IFAO) standards, the maximum dosage of potassium sorbate in foodstuffs is 0.28/kg, and the use of potassium sorbate in packaging materials extends the shelf-life of foodstuffs such as bread and dry cuisines. In view of the limitations of single food additives in terms of application and physical properties, a great deal of effort is being made at home and abroad to develop complex food additives that can be synergized to achieve optimal results.
