Gray Iron Round Bar is stocked in an assortment of diameters, from 0.625” to 26.560”. As-cast round bars are made to clean up to the nominal size. Additional stock is added to allow for out-of-round and normal imperfections in the as-cast surface. For applications with demanding tolerances, centerless grinding and turning services are available. Standard bar lengths are 72", but we can supply them in lengths up to 144”.

Ductile iron square bar is stocked in a range of sizes, from 2.030” x 2.030” to 21.000” x 21.000”. As-cast squares are made to the actual size with no allowance for machine stock added. Squares are cast to actual dimension, with clean up stock dependent on the height-and-width ratio.  They can be milled to achieve close-tolerance benefits, upon request. Standard lengths are 72”, while additional lengths are available up to 144”.

65-45-12 grade ductile iron contains nodular graphite in a matrix of ferrite with small amounts of pearlite. The ferritic structure gives excellent machinability with good surface finishes along with optimal impact strengths, fatigue properties, electrical conductivity, and high magnetic permeability. This iron has approximately the same tensile and yield strengths as AISI 1020 steel in the as-rolled condition.

80-55-06 grade ductile iron contains nodular graphite in a matrix of ferrite and pearlite. The pearlite-and-ferrite structure provides higher wear resistance and strength when compared to a ferritic grade of ductile iron. This material is readily machinable and displays good surface finishes. Tensile and yield strengths are similar to AISI 1040 steel in the as-rolled condition.

100-70-03 ductile iron combines nodular graphite in a matrix of pearlite with a small amount of ferrite. It's produced in a range of sizes and shapes and is often used in place of plain carbon steel. Its machinability is similar to carbon steel.

continuous casting process begins with water-cooled graphite die that is machined to form the shape of the bar.

The die is mounted on a bar machine crucible. As the bar is pulled horizontally from the crucible, the head pressure feeds molten iron into the die, producing a fine-grained cast iron bar.

Since the bar is being pulled from the bottom of the holding crucible, dross, slag, and other impurities float to the top, away from the opening of the die. Great Steel process enables the microstructure to be free from shrinkage, gas holes, and other tool-wearing inclusions.
