Wollastonite is a triclinal system of fine platy crystals with radial or fibrous aggregates. The color is white, sometimes with a light gray, reddish hue. Vitreous lustre, cleavage face shows pearl lustre. Hardness 4.5 ~ 5.5, density 2.75 ~ 3.10g/cm3.
Completely soluble in concentrated hydrochloric acid. Generally acid, alkali and chemical resistance. Hygroscopicity is less than 4%. Low oil absorption, low electrical conductivity, good insulation. Wollastonite is a typical metamorphic mineral, mainly produced in the contact zone between acid rock and limestone, and symbiosis with Fulminite and garnet. It is also found in deep metamorphic calc crystalline schist volcanic ejecta and some alkaline rocks. Wollastonite is a kind of inorganic needle-like mineral, which has the characteristics of non-toxic, chemical corrosion resistance, good thermal stability and dimensional stability, glass and pearl luster, low water absorption rate and oil absorption value, excellent mechanical and electrical properties and has a certain reinforcing effect.
