VESTANT TMDI
VESTANT TMDI is an aliphatic isocyanate containing a methyl branched chain. It is a mixture of 2,2,4-trimethylhexane diisocyanate and 2,4,4-trimethylhexane diisocyanate (approximately 1:1). As an aliphatic isocyanate, VESTANT TMDI is a low viscosity, colorless, slightly odorous liquid.
Properties and applications
Based on its aliphatic properties, VESTANT TMDI can be used to manufacture light and weather resistant polyurethanes. Compared to cyclic isocyanates, VESTANT TMDI gives polyurethanes with very soft chain segments. Polyurethanes made with VESTANT TMDI exhibit excellent compatibility. Naturally, many of the properties of polyurethane resins also depend on the substances that react with TMDI, such as POLYOLS.
VESTANT TMDI enables the preparation of amino-modified resins for use in coatings. Polyurethanes made from VESTANT TMDI are characterized by excellent flexibility, compatibility and very low viscosity. Applications under heated conditions are as follows, polyurethane dispersions and radiation cured polyurethane modified acrylics. The addition of VESTANT TMDI to an isocyanate system at half the total amount of isocyanate will cause changes related to the properties mentioned above.
