Ferrous sulfate is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula of FeSO4. It is white powder and odorless. Its crystal hydrate is heptahydrate at normal temperature, commonly known as "green alum", light green crystal. It is weathered in dry air, oxidized to brown basic ferric sulfate on the surface in humid air, tetrahydrate at 56.6 ℃ and monohydrate at 65 ℃. Ferrous sulfate is soluble in water and almost insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution oxidizes slowly in air when it is cold and faster when it is hot. The addition of alkali or dew can accelerate its oxidation. Relative density (D15) 1.897.Irritating.
