Polypropylene yarn is the trade name of polypropylene fiber. It is made from propylene by polymerization and melt spinning. Polypropylene filament yarn was formally industrialized in 1957, and it is a rising star in synthetic fibers. Due to the advantages of simple production process, low price, high strength and light relative density, polypropylene fiber is developing rapidly. At present, polypropylene yarn is the fourth largest variety of synthetic fiber.
1. The longitudinal plane of the shape polypropylene fiber is straight and smooth, and the cross section is round.
2.The biggest advantage of density polypropylene fiber is light texture, its density is only 0.91g/m³, which is the lightest variety among common chemical fibers, so the same weight of polypropylene fiber can get higher coverage area than other fibers.
3. The strength,elongation and initial modulus of PP filament are high. In addition, the wet strength of polypropylene fiber is basically equal to the dry strength, so it is an ideal material for making fishing nets and ropes.
4.The moisture absorption and moisture regain of polypropylene fiber are very low. However, it has wicking effect and can transmit water vapor through capillary tubes in the fabric, but it has no absorption effect. The dyeability of polypropylene fiber is poor and the chromatogram is incomplete, but the method of original solution coloring can be used to make up for the deficiency.
5. Polypropylene fiber has good chemical corrosion
resistance. In addition to concentrated nitric acid and caustic soda, polypropylene fiber has good resistance to acid and alkali,so it is suitable for use as filter material and packaging material.
6. The light fastness of polypropylene filament is poor, and its thermal stability is poor. It is easy to aging and not resistant to ironing. But it can be achieved by adding anti-aging agent to the spinning process.
