Products Description

Tororon
Shaved tororo kombu made only with lavish wild-grown makombu kelp from southern Hokkaido. Enjoy the distinctive melt-in-your-mouth texture of wild-grown makombu. In addition to onigiri, it is also perfect for udon and clear soups. Pour in hot water and add a bit of soy sauce to create a delicious tororo kombu soup.
We shave a variety of kombu kelp harvested in Hokkaido called makombu. We use only kombu harvested from Osasube Beach, one of the superior Shirokuchihama beaches. It was used for offerings in ancient times, and its key feature is a refined sweetness. The kombu harvest in Hokkaido has been declining year by year, but wild-grown kombu remains an especially prized ingredient. While we mentioned wild-grown kombu, there are wild-grown, cultivated, and cultured types categorized based on the growing period and how it is raised. Wild-grown kombu puts down roots on the sea floor, and grows for 2 years (growing from the bottom up). Cultivated kombu is tended by people, and is grown for 2 years suspended from ropes, while cultured kombu is the same as cultivated kombu, except that it is grown for 1 year. Naturally, wild-grown kombu is thicker and hardier.
We do not use thickening additives to maintain the appealing look of tororo kombu. We also do not add any excess flavoring. The flavors of the ingredients are important precisely because of their simplicity. This fine product allows you to enjoy the flavor of Osasube kombu to the fullest.
