White or light yellow crystalline powder. It has fragrant odour. Solubility in water is 60% at 20℃, 85% at 50℃, 133% at 80℃, 160% at 100℃. Slightly soluble in alcohol, insoluble in ether. Production method
In the industry, the material containing glucose (e.g. grain) is generally used as the raw material, and the fermentation method is used to produce gluconic acid from glucose first, and then sodium hydroxide is used to neutralise it, so that sodium gluconate can be produced. Gluconic acid can also be produced from glucose by chemical oxidation or catalytic oxidation, but the yield is low and refining is difficult.
Uses
Sodium gluconate is a kind of multi-hydroxy acid corrosion and scale inhibitor, which has excellent coordination ability to iron, calcium, copper and other ions in aqueous solution, and has good descaling effect on many salts of these ions. It not only has scale inhibition function, but also has corrosion inhibition function. It can be used in industrial circulating cooling water, low-pressure boiler internal water treatment and internal combustion engine cooling water system water treatment. It can cooperate with many corrosion inhibitors and show synergistic effect, applicable to silicon system, molybdenum system, phosphorus system, boron system, tungsten system, nitrite system and some organic corrosion inhibitor series, sodium gluconate and organic carboxylic acid corrosion inhibition also has good synergistic effect.
