L-arabinose is a commonly used food additive, also known as pectin sugar, L-arabinose, L-apenose.It is about 50% as sweet as sucrose and has zero calories because it cannot be digested by digestive enzymes. In nature,L-arabinose rarely exists as a monosaccharide, but is usually combined with other monosaccharides in the form of heteropolysaccharides. The plant tissues with high content of L-arabinose are corn husk, corn cob, rice, wheat and other grains.
