Gypsum is a common mineral. It is found in layers that were formed under salt water millions of years ago. When the water evaporated, it left the mineral behind.
It is composed of calcium sulfate (CaSO4) and water (H2O). Its chemical name is calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4.2H2O).

Applications
Gypsum is a mineral that has been used as plaster for construction and decoration for thousands of years.
