“Panettone” cake is a traditional and typical Italian baked cake. It is made following an ancient recipe. Its name comes from “Pan de Toni” (that means “Tony’s bread”, from the name of a young cook assistant who worked in Milan by the end of 15° century and the beginning of 16° century). Panettone has a cylindrical base which ends in a dome shape. It is obtained from a leavened dough based on water, flour, butter, eggs (yolk), to which are then added raisins, candied fruit, orange peel and cedar in equal parts. This is the description of the Classic Panettone. Of course during the years many different ingredients were added to the classic recipe in order to have Panettone with new flavors: for example Panettone with chocolate or Panettone with Moscato wine. In Italy, Panettone is the traditional cake for Christmas. But, if you love it, you can eat it also all year long!
