Before bathing and trimming, you need to comb your dog's hair with a dog brush to make sure that there are no knots, as knots become larger during bathing.
Use the Pin Brush to brush the beard, legs and underskirt to make sure there are no knots. Brush upward (against the natural lay of the hair) from the top of the leg and proceed downward as you are brushing. Some people call this "Line Brushing". This process helps ensure that the knots are combed away. Don't forget the underarms and the hair between toes, these are the places where knotting is form easily.
Dogs that have more hair need more time to maintain than dogs that have thin hair. It is recommended to trim the dog's hair at least once a week to prevent knots from forming. If you find a knot, place your other hand between the knot and pet's skin before combing to reduce tension on the skin, which helps minimize discomfort to the dog.
