 Genmaicha is a blend of green tea and roasted brown rice. Light brown colored liquid with a distinctive taste similar to popcorn. Some of the rice pops during roasting process.

 

Legend has it that during the 1400's a servant named Genamai was beheaded because some rice fell in a samurai warlord's cup of tea. The warlord drank the brew despite the fact that rice was in his tea. The flavor was very unique and he enjoyed it tremendously. In honor of poor Genami he pronounced that this rice and tea be served every morning and be called 'Genmaicha' (cha being the name of 'tea' in Japanese).

 

 

 

Preparation directions: In a cup or glass with ¼ tablespoon of Tea and pour boiling water brew 2 to 5 minutes, based on desired strength, you can use same tea 3 or 4 times just pour boiling water, it depends on your pleasure and flavor.
