The history of casting in Japan started around 1600 (right before the Edo period began) in Kuwana, Mie prefecture with the production of firearms.
Soon after that, people discovered that the sand in the neighboring village was suitable for modern sand casting methods. These new methods helped lead to the rapid growth of casting.
Kuwana casting is now widely valued in various fields, including industrial and electric fields. It is used in the construction of many products, such as machines, manholes, cooking tools, and even some fancier products such as drink coasters, all around the world.
