INTENDED USE: Test for estimation of SGPT activity  in serum / plasma using UV –Kinetic  method.

Introduction:

SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase) or ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase) is an enzyme is found in the cells of heart, muscles, kidneys and pancreas only in small amounts but in much greater concentration in the liver. SGPT is released into blood when the liver or heart is damaged. The blood SGPT levels are thus elevated with liver damage (for example, from viral hepatitis or cirrhosis) or with an insult to the heart (for example, from a heart attack). Some medications can also raise SGPT levels. SGPT activity can be estimated in serum / plasma using UV-kinetic method.
