EcoInterUrb Glycerin is a colorless, viscous and odorless liquid that is found in animal fats and vegetable oils, and that can be obtained through different chemical processes. It has multiple applications, for example, in the formulation of medicines, cosmetics, perfumes, soaps and food products. It is also useful as a lubricant in machinery.
Glycerin is currently obtained from two types of industries:
- Oil-chemical plants producing fatty acids, where the basic process is the splitting of the oil into fatty acids and glycerin
- Biodiesel producing plants, where the basic process is the esterification of the oil to obtain ester of split oil and glycerin
