VULGAR NAME

It is known as Sangre de Drago or Sangre de Grado (because of the resin or latex that comes the tree's bark, when an incision is made).

DEFINITION

The latex comes from the Amazonian trees of the genus Croton, especially C. Lechleri species. Since ancient times the latex has been used in traditional remedies and in modern times, it has been studied. It’s medicinal and healing properties has been proved due to its alkaloid content taspine, and content of SP-303, a proanthocyanidin oligomeric which has an antiviral action. Sangre de Drago is a medium to tall tree, up to 5 or 6m in height, with large heart-shaped leaves. The pale white flowers and fruits are inconspicuous in tall thin spikes, and fruits are three-celled.

PROCESS

Extraction in hidryoalcoholic solution (water + alcohol), filtering, spray drying, homogenized and packed in double sealed laminated bags, quality control and packing.

ORIGIN

The different species of the genus Croton are distributed in tropical and subtropical America. In Peru in the departments of Loreto and San Martín, peruvian rainforest.

COMPOSITION

In terms of chemical composition in the crust (latex) were identified: steroids, Coumarins, alkaloids (Taspine), flavonoids, tannins (54%), Saponins (low concentration), Anthocyanins, phenolic compounds (Gallic acid) and also contains Vitamin A, E and C, starch, cellulose, fats, Lignans (Mucilages, proteins, Catechins (Epicatechin, Gallocatequina, Epigallocatequina, etc.).
