Used as bleaching agent, preservative, loosening agent and antioxidant in food industry.
It is also used in pharmaceutical synthesis and as a reducing agent in the production of dehydrated vegetables.

The electronics industry is used to manufacture photoresistors.
The paper industry is used as a lignin remover, the textile industry is used as a stabilizer for man-made f ibers.
