About Shantung/Dupioni Silk Fabric
Silk dupioni, sometimes called silk dupion or silk douppioni, it is a kind of pure silk made out of raw silk fabric. It is silk at its best natural form. Silkdupioniis made from “twin” cocoons, naturally bonded together. The slight bumps, or “slubs” in the fabric are evidence of this fiber bonding in nature. Silk dupioni is very easy to sew. It is a stable, crisp fabric and does not creep or crawl while sewing, and it is perfect for many creative uses. However, silk dupion also has several drawbacks. It has almost no stretching ability, which means that using this fabric requires the need to be very exact in the measurements before cutting out any pattern.
