Introduction: copper intrauterine device (IUD) is a traditional effective method of long-term contraception.   Copper IUD releasing indomethacin is a newly designed IUD that can effectively reduce side effects during early insertion. 

Unique Features

The research and development of “Ai Mu” MYCu IUD conforms to the design route that reflects the dynamic mechanism of uterus.

1. TiNi shaped memory alloy is selected to make the supports.  Compared with supports those are made of stainless steel, silicon gel and other materials, supports made of TiNi shaped memory alloy enjoy the following distinctive advantages:

(1) Temperature memory effect and ultra-elasticity;

(2) Corrosion resistance;

(3) Fatigue resistance;

(4) Good tissue compatibility.

2. Designed according to the form of the uterine cavity and mechanical principle, its two arms have given field angles and assume completely open V shape. Due to subtle elasticity, the support can expand and contract as the womb does, which effectively addresses the problems of downward movement and expulsion.

3. Capillary copper sleeves are added to two side arms, which slightly adjust the dynamical structure of IUD, strengthens its adaptability to uterine wall, hence strengthens the contraceptive effect.

4. For copper grains on the end of two arms are inserted to high place of “pass”, which is close to two uterine horns, a zone with high density of copper ions is formed in this area and copper ions’ contraceptive function is fully exerted.

5. With small copper surface area of 225mm² , which is at comparatively low level compared to other copper IUDs, and a smooth surface, this IUD has little stimulation to the endometrium and slight side effects such as bleeding and pain.

6. Silica rubber bars on the side arms contain 25mg indometacin. During early days of insertion, indometacin is released to decrease the synthesis of prostaglandin, thus reduce the side effects of bleeding and pain to the uterus.

7. Being without tail filament, the possibility of retrograde infection is extinguished and discomfort to men is eliminated.

8. Inserted by means of withdrawal.
