First, the motors' usage,voltage,speed ,torque needed are essential,choose dc motors,dc geared motors or brushless motors even stepper motors for different usage.

Geared motor has lower speed but bigger torque. if we need the speed less than 2000rpm, then the gear is needed.because usually the DC motor speed is more than 2000rpm,can be up to 3000-20000rpm.

Second,consider the size and shape,usually the big size the big torque(force) and big power.
