The StrongStep® Cryptococcal Antigen Rapid Test Device is a rapid immune-chromatographic assay for the detection of the capsular polysaccharide antigens of Cryptococcus species complex (Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii) in serum, plasma, whole blood and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). This lateral flow assay is revolutionizing Cryptococcal antigen testing, by delivering analytical sensitivity that is up to 400x more sensitive than other commercial assays.

 

It is important to note both the hTigh positive and negative predictive values, showing this immunoassay ‘s utility as an effective tool for both diagnosis and screening. The WHO emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis as the means to reduce mortality caused by Crytococcosis, especially in the developing countries, and recommends the use of lateral flow assay over culture and India ink.
