Technologies used to make the shims

We manufacture shim shapes to your requirements - washers, 'U' or complicated shapes are all possible using a variety of cutting methods including laser cutting, wire-electrode cutting,stamping and photo chemical etching processes. Shim packs can be provided where a variety of thicknesses are cut from the same profile to aid perfect alignment of on-site machinery.


Application of shims

The ultra-thin shims can be used in power plants, nuclear plants or gas and oil refineries. Various industrial uses include alignment, tool and die set-up, new machinery commissioning and machinery repair. The stainless steel shims are often used to fill spaces between machine parts that wear easily. This helps avoid costly replacement and lost production time.

We can make shims from aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper, Teflon


Shim thickness

Generally, when shim thickness is below 0.4mm, we will choose photo chemical etching technology to make it. By photo etching, there will be no burrs on the edge of the shims, and won't cut your fingers when you touch and use them, another advantage is that the shims can stay very flat without bent.

Photo etching shim thickness:

0.025 mm, 0.03 mm, 0.04 mm, 0.05 mm, 0.06 mm, 0.07 mm, 0.08 mm, 0.1 mm, 0.12mm, 0.13 mm, 0.15 mm, 0.18 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm


When shim thickness is more than 0.4 mm, we can make them by laser cut or stamping . If the shims require high precision, say +/-0.02 mm, and the holes or slot are very small, then you can choose wire-electrode cutting technology to make them.


When the shim shapes are very simple, and your order quantity is very large, then stamping will be the best  technology to make your shims. You only need to pay for the mold cost firstly, the unit price will be much lower than other technologies.
