Bougainvillea Potted Plants, white, purple, double colour Bonsai

The Bougainvillea, being a subtropical tree, needs a relatively high minimum temperature in winter and prefers lots of light as well. Protect it from freezing temperatures.

Watering: Normal watering, misting is advisable as the tree likes high humidity.

Pruning: To increase ramifications prune/pinch the tree regularly during the growth season. If you wish to grow thicker branches or a thicker trunk remove the flowers at all times, but do not prune the branches.

Repotting: The Bougainvillea needs to be repotted once every 2-3 years, and dislikes strong root pruning.

Keep your bougainvillea bonsai in an area that receives direct sunlight for at least eight hours per day. Water the bonsai only once the top soil becomes dry to the touch. Apply a 12-10-10 nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium fertilizer every 10 to 14 days during the growing season and a 2-10-10 NPK fertilizer during the winter months. Prune your bonsai once a month during the growing season, removing only a little at a time. Cut off any weak, broken branches and yellow leaves. Prune unwanted side branches to promote a center trunk.
