Properties of Bi
1.Chemical properties
Bismuth is heated to above the melting point of burning, a light blue flame, generating three oxidation two bismuth, bismuth in red can also with sulfur and halogen compounds. Bismuth is insoluble in water and insoluble in non oxidizing acids。
2. Physical properties
Pure bismuth is a soft metal, crisp pure. Stable at room temperature. The main ore bismutinite and bismuth ocher stone. The expansion of liquid bismuth.
Brittle, conductive and thermal conductivity are poor. Bismuth selenide and telluride with semiconductor properties.
Bismuth is a silvery white (pink) to light yellow luster of the metal, brittle and easy to crush; at room temperature, bismuth does not react with oxygen or water, stable in the air, conductive thermal conductivity is poor.
Applications of Bi
1.Semiconductor
Semiconductor device for high purity bismuth and tellurium, selenium, antimony and other combination, pulling the thermocouple for temperature, thermoelectric power generation and refrigeration. For assembling air conditioner and refrigerator. The optical resistance can be obtained by the use of artificial bismuth sulfide to increase the sensitivity of the visible spectral region.
