2. Brief Introduction

a). The bearing capacity of bored piles can be increased significantly by enlarging the base area of a pile. Belling buckets are the right tools for base enlargement in stable ground conditions (mainly cohesive).

b). By use of the leverage system and application of vertical crowd force on the push rod, the cutting arms are gradually opened. The drilled material falls into the open shell of the bucket. The cutting arms are closed by upward movement of the kelly bar which transmits the pull onto the push rod.

c). The ratio of shaft diameter to the end diameter of the bell is about 2.
