China supplier high precision ceramic roller bearing 608
Common Ceramic materials include: Silicon Nitride (Si3N4), Zirconia (ZrO2) and Alumina (Al2O3). Black Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) is the material of choice for inline and sk8board bearings. Balls made of this material are half the weight and twice as hard as steel balls. Avoid buying (white) ZrO2 and Al2O3 ceramic ball bearings as these are less resistant to crushing and can suffer from catastrophic failure. A properly engineered silicon nitride bearing fails in the same manner as a steel ball through spalling of the ball surface.
Ceramic coated steel ball bearings are available for industrial use. This type of ceramic bearing is not suitable for inline or skateboard use as the ceramic coating can crack and flake off with impact loading. Only buy ceramic bearings made with solid ceramide balls.
