LED rope lights do not cause harm to the environment when they are disposed of, while incandescent rope lights are filled with potentially harmful substances for our landfills. Contrary to popular belief, LED rope lights do generate heat, however they will be "cool to the touch" when installed properly, incandescent rope lights get very hot and should not be used where they can be touched or rubbed against, which may inadvertently cause burns.
