It belongs to an oxygen containing derivate of organic hydrocarbon, colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with soil smell. Slightly soluble in water and soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ether, acetone etc.
It smells like peppermint when it contains small amount of phenol. It appears light yellow and strong stink smell when it contains impurity or storage long time. Combustible, violent reaction when contact with oxidant.
