Autism is known as a complex developmental disability.Experts believe that Autism presents itself during the first three years of a person's life. The condition is the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function, affecting development of the person's communication and social interaction skills.
People with autism have issues with non-verbal communication,a wide range of social interactions, and activities that include an element of play and/or banter.
The clearest evidence of these autism risk factors involves events before and during birth. They include advanced parental age at time of conception (both mom and dad),maternal illness during pregnancy and certain difficulties during birth, particularly those involving periods of oxygen deprivation to the baby’s brain. It is important to keep in mind that these factors,by themselves,do not cause autism.Rather,in combination with genetic risk factors, they appear to modestly increase risk.
Autism is usually noted early in a child’s life. The typical age of regression is as early as 18 months, when an autistic child may start meeting milestones on a timeline different than that of a neurotypical child.Common early signs of autism include little or no speech,a lack of eye contact, little physical affection, and an obsession or fixation with certain objects or topics.
For instance,at 18 months a child should be able to speak 12 or more words clearly, including Mama,Dada, sleep, and other words that they hear on a regular basis. However,an autistic child may not speak at all—s/he may only verbalize, grunt,or speak random syllables. Some autistic children may not verbalize or make any noises. And a lack of eye contact and physical affection are both very common signs of autism in children.Autistic children often do not make eye contact; if they do,they may not hold it for more than a second or two.
Here are some signs to look for in the children in your life:
Lack of or delay in spoken language
Repetitive use of language and/or motor mannerisms
Little or no eye contact
Lack of interest in peer relationships
Lack of spontaneous or make-believe play
Persistent fixation on parts of objects
There are a variety of treatments for autism that aim to reduce the signs of autism. These treatments include occupational therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment.
Hyperbaric Chamber can offer a Pure Oxygen Treatment to people, called Hyperbaric Oxgeyn Therapy.Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment which the patient is entirely enclosed in a pressure chamber breathing pure oxygen (O2) at greater than one atmosphere pressure. In our atmosphere, the pressure is 1ATA,So Air contains nearly 21% oxygen and approximately 78% nitrogen. But if we are inside a Hyperbaric Chamber, the oxygen percentage breathed by the patient is nearly 100%,almost five times more than in air.The pressure of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber is usually 1.3ATA, more than 1.3 times greater than our atmospheric pressure.Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can enhance the body’s natural healing process by delivering oxygen under pressure, increasing the oxygen content in the blood and in the cerebral spinal fluid, flooding the tissues with oxygen.
The rationale behind using hyperbaric for Autism is that the treatments increase cerebral blood flow and thus oxygen is delivered to areas of the brain, which are thought to be oxygen deficient.Greater amounts of blood and oxygen begin to stimulate cerebral tissues and aid in recovery of idling neurons. The autistic child lies or sits down in a hyperbaric chamber for the prescribed
amount of time. The oxygen, which is more concentrated and therapeutic than anything you can get outside of this treatment, helps the body’s cells to heal and repair damage in the brain. HBOT also reduces excess fluids and swelling of brain tissues which aid in neurological function and a less confused state in Autistics.
Here are photoes of SPECT scans of a 17-year-old autistic individual before and after HBOT.
SPECT scans before and after mild HBOT sessions have shown dramatic improvements in cerebral blood flow that is sustained over time. The improvement in blood supply continued to be evident one year after HBOT.
It is reported that hyperbaric oxygen chamber can have benefits from the treatment include improvements in language, eye contact, socialization, appetite and digestion.
The benefits of HBOT that included:
Improved sleep
Children becoming calmer and more affectionate
Improved focus and attention
Improved bowel function
More "Present"
Less Sensory Disturbance
Improved Cognition
More Language
More "Connected" to Family.
After getting a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy by using a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber,Children can get Improvements in social skills and grades, and a reduction in seizures. It should be noted, however, that the benefits of HBOT vary with individuals. Not all persons receiving HBOT experience all the same benefits.
Doctors recommend people to use hyperbaric chamber for 60 to 90 minutes each time, one or two times per day and 5 to 7 days per week.
