  How to Use a Parachute for Speed Training             

 

 

Step 1

Warm up properly when you go to the track to train with running parachutes. Do hamstring stretches, calf raises and make sure your lower back and glute muscles are loose and ready to work out. Sprinting is explosive work by itself, but when you strap on the the running chute, the effort is more taxing.

Strap on your running parachute over your shoulders. You will wear it the same way you wear a backpack.

Step 3

Take off from starting blocks on your training partner's signal. The the running chute will unfurl. You will feel significant pull coming from the chute and heavy resistance as you run. Run 100 m as fast as you can with the resistance of the running chute. Resist the urge to turn around.

Step 4

Prepare to run another 100 m with the running parachute. Explode out of the starting blocks as fast as you can and sprint down the track.

Step 5

Release the running chute by pressing the button on your harness once you get to the 50-m mark. The resistance will disappear. This creates a surge when you are running called "overspeed." Finish the 100 m with as much speed as you can muster.

Step 6

Take a one-minute break after you run the two sprints.

Step 7

Repeat the drill by running two more 100-m sprints, including one with the chute and the second with the chute coming off midway through the sprint.
