Description

Langstroth hives are the most common hives used in North America and Australia. These hives are stacking rectangular boxes with removable frames for the bees to build comb in. 

Langstroth hive configuration is incredibly customizable, allowing the beekeeper to stacked boxes of various heights, to their liking. Boxes come in 3 depths: deep, medium, and shallow, and 2 widths: 10 frame or 8 frame. We recommend starting Langstroth hives with either 2 deeps, or 3 mediums depending on your preference for modularity and maneuverability. Deep boxes can weigh up to 100 lbs, while medium boxes weigh up to 60 lbs. Shallow boxes are usually used to enclose feeders or other accessories, and not to expand the hive.

The hive kit contains:
• 1 Deep & 1 Medium hive body Langstroth (brood box 9 5/8" & Honey super 6 5/8" height)

• 1 Screened bottom board offering great air circulation in the hive, limiting moisture accumulation & comes with a back drawer for Varroa mite check

• 1 Inner cover as an inner roof for honeybees so that they do not build in the outer cover (otherwise it damages their comb every time you'd open the lid.

• 1 Entrance reducer to control the circulation in/out the hive (very useful to keep intruders out) 

• 1 Queen excluder to separate brood box from honey super so the queen bee does not lay egg where you collect your honey

• 1 Metal telescopic cover a barrier protective the beehive from outside elements 

• 10 Deep & 10 Medium wooden frames & waxed Rite-Cell plastic yellow foundations

Accessories and Measures

Choose between a 10-frame hive and an 8-frame hive kit, the choice is mostly dependent on how much equipment you can lift. 10-frame boxes are what most beekeepers use, but 8-frame boxes are popular with some. The equipment is not interchangeable, so it is best to choose one type and stick with it.
