What is Telmisartan?
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (angiotensin receptor blocker, ARB) used in the management of hypertension. Telmisartan blocks the angiotensin receptor. By blocking the action of angiotensin, telmisartan widens blood vessels (vasodilate) and reduces blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Telmisartan was approved by the FDA in November 2000.
