Adapalene is a second-generation topical retinoid primarily used in the treatment of mild-moderate acne, and is also used off-label to treat keratosis pilaris as well as other skin conditions.  It is effective against acne conditions where comedones are predominant.

Adapalene gel has a good effect on mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Clinical studies have found that it can reduce non-inflammatory skin lesions by 69.6% to 73.2%, inflammatory lesions by 68% to 72.1%, and cure rate of 17.5%. ~22.2%; 

Total effective rate is 75% to 95%. One study found that adapalene gel has the same effect on acne as retinoic acid, but is superior to inflammatory papules and pustules.
