Application scope
Silicon carbide has four main application fields: functional ceramics, advanced refractories, abrasives and metallurgical raw materials. Silicon carbide can be supplied in large quantities and can not be regarded as a high-tech product. However, it is impossible to form economies of scale in a short period of time for the application of nano-sized silicon carbide powders with very high technology content. [3]
As abrasive, it can be used for grinding tools, such as grinding wheel, oil stone, grinding head, sand tile and so on.
2. Used as metallurgical deoxidizer and high temperature resistant material.
High purity single crystals can be used to make semiconductors and manufacture silicon carbide fibers.
Main uses: for 3 - 12 inch silicon, polysilicon, potassium arsenide, quartz crystal and other wire cutting. Solar photovoltaic industry, semiconductor industry, engineering materials for piezoelectric industry.
Used in semiconductor, lightning rod, circuit components, high temperature applications, ultraviolet detectors, structural materials, astronomy, disc brake, clutch, diesel particulate filter, filament pyrometer, ceramic film, cutting tools, heating elements, nuclear fuel, jewelry, steel, protective equipment, catalyst support and other fields.
Abrasive grinding tool
It is mainly used for grinding and polishing of grinding wheels, abrasive paper, abrasive belt, oilstone, abrasive block, abrasive head, abrasive paste, monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon and piezoelectric crystal in electronics industry. [5]
Material variety

Silicon carbide has two commonly used basic varieties, black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, all belong to alpha -SiC. (1) Black silicon carbide contains about 95% SiC, and its toughness is higher than that of green silicon carbide. It is mostly used for processing materials with low tensile strength, such as glass, ceramics, stone, refractories, cast iron and non-ferrous metals. (2) Silicon carbide contains about 97% SiC and has good self-sharpening property. It is mainly used for processing cemented carbide, titanium alloy and optical glass, as well as for honing cylinder liner and finishing high-speed steel tool. In addition, there is cubic silicon carbide, which is a yellow-green crystal made by special technology, used to make abrasives suitable for bearing ultra-precision machining, surface roughness can be processed from Ra32-0.16 micron to Ra0.04-0.02 micron.
