General Information:

Kadsura coccinea is an evergreen, climbing plant with woody stems
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and medicine.

Range:

E. Asia - southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam.

Habitat:

Edible Uses:

Fruit - raw or cooked. A sweet flavour. The red to dark purple, aggregate fruit can be 6 - 10cm or more in diameter, made up of 50 - 60 or more individual fruits

Medicinal:

The roasted fruit is a hypnotic and sedative
The seed is aphrodisiac, pectoral and tonic
The roots and stems are used for treating gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroenteritis, rheumatism, lumbago, dysmenorrhea, and for improving blood circulation
The leaves are used to treat eczema

Propagation: 

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a shady position in a nursery seedbed.. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are large enough to handle and grow them on until they are large enough to plant out.
Cuttings of half-ripe wood, 5 - 8cm with a heel. Good percentage
Layering of long shoots in the autumn
