Product Description
Cast iron pot come in many sizes, from a small mini pot to a 94L cook kettle. Potjies include well-fitted lids and strong carrying handles and are made from all cast iron. They have three legs and the rounded bottoms to create a rolling boil motion that prevents food from sticking. Potjie Pots are necessities for versatile outdoor cooking.
The lids are thick, cast iron and hot coals on top turn your Potjie Pot into a Dutch Oven for baking.
Our Potjie pots are 100% food safe and pre-seasoned with a fine coating of wax and high temperature paint or vegetable oil. With proper care, they will last you for many years.
HOW TO PREPARE AND TREAT YOUR POTJIE POT
NOTE: Please perform the following process outdoors, as it causes smoke.
Our traditional range of cast iron pot has only a protective layer to prevent rusting and help with curing during storage.
TO PREPARE FOR COOKING THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE RECOMMENDED
1. Wash out thoroughly with boiling water and scouring pad and leave to dry.
2. Coat the inside with cooking oil (any) and heat till oil begins to smoke.
Allow the pot to cool.
3. Using a paper towel wipe inside clean.
Repeat until towel wipes clean. DO NOT leave them to drip-dry.
4. The pot is now ready for use.
The more you use it the better it becomes.
TO CLEAN AND STORE THE POT THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE RECOMMENDED
1. After each use…
Wash, dry and coat inside with oil. DO NOT leave them to drip-dry.
2. Store in dry place with absorbent paper inside. Do not put the lid back on.
