WHAT IS TALC?
Talc is the softest mineral in the World. Although there are many different varieties of this mineral ore but they have this basic characteristics of being soft and platy. Talc is a very important part of everyday lives. The magazines we read, the polymers in our cars and houses, the paints we use and the tiles we walk on are just some of the products that uses this performance mineral.
Talc is a hydrated magnesium sheet silicate with the chemical formula Mg3 Si4 O10 (OH)2.
This chemical composition makes it practically insoluble in water, weak acids and alkali's. It is neither explosive nor flammable as it has very little chemical reactivity.
The most common host of talc ore bodies is dolomite and ultramafic rocks. The color variation of its lumps vary from Snow White to black including greenish grey and various shades of green pink and even red.
