Jindai keyaki
This is a precious material called Jindai keyaki (Zelkova wood) that was dug out from the foot of Mount Chokai on the border between Akita Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture in 1998.
Jindai refers to forest trees that were buried underground or underwater in ancient times through eruptions of volcanic ash,
avalanches of earth and rocks, floods of rivers, earthquakes, and other geological events. These trees spent several thousand years sealed with pressure underground or underwater.
This Jindai Zelkova was buried by the avalanche of sand and stone from the major eruption of Mount Chokai in 466 BC (according to
measurements by the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties) and is a result of lumbering raw timber that awoke from a slumber of 2,462 years.
Although these are the mill ends from the timber used for construction of the Kyoto State Guest House and a meeting room in the
headquarters of Dentsu Inc., its surface with a distinct dark blue to black tinge gives off a divine presence.

Jindai Zelkova
Japan's representative broad-leaved tree. It has been widely used since ancient times.

Company Profile

My inspiration for creating furniture from single planks of wood was born from my love for natural wooden planks with distinctive colors and shapes that cannot be found elsewhere. They made me wonder if I was able to bring the charms of these materials to as many people as possible in the course of my current line of work. To do that, I started to research on lumber dealers all around Japan.

After a series of telephone inquiries and on-site observation sessions, I encountered one of Japan's three magnificent cedars, the ""Yanase-sugi"" from the Shikoku region.
As with its famous counterparts ""Yakushima-sugi"" and ""Akita-sugi,"" Shikoku's ""Yanase-sugi"" is an exceedingly valuable cedar that will become increasingly rare in the market after it was banned from being logged in 2018.

Although these cedars all give rise to stunning wooden planks that are over 100 years old with their own unique stories, my surprise did not end there. According to the Yanase-sugi supplier, the wood has been stored in the warehouse for many years ever since he purchased it because he was attracted to it.

I was immediately struck by an idea: What if I could put all the wood stored here to good use and offer the warmth of natural materials to families out there at reasonable prices? I promptly purchased the Yanase-sugi and started to transform them into commercial products.

One-and-only wooden planks for your one-and-only family.
We hope to share this wonderful product with everyone around the country to put a smile on the faces of people seated around a homely dining table.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
