Introductions

Modified starch, also called starch derivatives, are prepared by physically, enzymatically, or chemically treating native starch to change its properties.

Modified starches are used in practically all starch applications, such as in food products as a thickening agent, stabilizer or emulsifier; in pharmaceuticals as a disintegrant; or as binder in coated paper. They are also used in many other applications.

Starches are modified to enhance their performance in different applications. Starches may be modified to increase their stability against excessive heat, acid, shear, time, cooling, or freezing; to change their texture; to decrease or increase their viscosity; to lengthen or shorten gelatinization time; or to increase their visco-stability.

Industrial Grade Cationic Corn Starch

 With the development of the paper industry, domestic papermaking enterprises adopt more and more neutral sizing. Therefore, high-quality quaternary ammonium cationic starch is required as a retention, dispersion and emulsifier for AKD. Applications of Cationic Corn Starch

1.Textile industry
Cationic starch can be used in sizing, increase warp lubricity and abrasion resistance, and can also be used as a protective coating for glass fibers during weaving.
Cationic starch can be used as a sizing agent for textile light yarns because of its good film forming properties, viscosity stability and compatibility with polyvinyl alcohol.
The cationic starch can also be used as a laundry finishing agent, which is added to the detergent to improve the rigidity and smoothness of the fabric after washing and drying.
As a sizing agent for glass fibers, cationic starch can improve the abrasion resistance of glass fibers.

2. Paper industry
The biggest use of cationic starch is to use its cationic and strong adhesion as an internal additive in papermaking, which can improve the paper's bursting resistance, tensile strength, folding resistance, anti-hairing and many other physical properties, and improve effect of sizing agent.
The cationic starch in the pulp aggregates the fine fibers, which makes the paper have good drainage performance, improves the copying speed of the paper, and greatly reduces the pollution of water quality.

3. Flocculant
Cationic starch has a positive charge and can flocculate negative organic or inorganic particles such as white clay, titanium dioxide, coal, carbon, iron ore and slurry; it can be used for drainage purification, mineral flotation and separation; purification and concentration of various biologically active substances such as enzymes, plasma, nucleic acids, etc.Since its agglutination effect is proportional to its relative molecular mass, their graft polymer works better. In addition, cationic starch can also act as a liquid loss control agent for high salt concentration drilling fluids.
