Product Details
Phenol (C6H5OH) is a colorless needle crystal with a special odor. It is toxic and is an important raw material for the production of certain resins, fungicides, preservatives such as aspirin. It can also be used to disinfect surgical instruments and excreta, skin sterilization, itching and otitis media. The melting point of 43 ° C, slightly soluble in water at room temperature, soluble in organic solvents; when the temperature is higher than 65 ° C, it can be miscible with water in any ratio. Phenol is corrosive and denatures local proteins after contact. The solution is applied to the skin and washed with alcohol. A small portion of the phenol is exposed to the air and is oxidized by oxygen to strontium and is pink. In the case of trivalent iron ions becoming purple, this method is usually used to test phenol.

Main application:
Phenol is an important organic chemical raw material.
It can be used to produce phenolic resin, caprolactam, bisphenol A, salicylic acid, picric acid, pentachlorophenol, 2,4-D, adipic acid, phenolphthalein n-acetoxyaniline and other chemical products and intermediates.
It has important applications in chemical raw materials, alkyl phenols, synthetic fibers, plastics, synthetic rubber, perfumes, dyes, coatings and oil refining.
In addition, phenol can also be used as a solvent, experimental reagent and disinfectant. An aqueous solution of phenol can separate proteins on the chromosomes of plant cells from DNA, and facilitate DNA staining.
