Copper sulfate pentahydrate (CuSO4·5H2O) is a blue crystals, and its aqueous solution is weak acid. It is commonly known as chalum or blue vitriol. Copper sulfate is an important raw material for the preparation of other copper compounds. It is used as a bactericidal agent in water treatment chemical (swimming pool) and an electrolyte in the electrolysis of refined copper.
