Al in MAX phase of Ti-Al-C system can rapidly diffuse and selectively oxidize during oxidation, and then form a dense Al2O3 film to prevent further oxidation of the matrix material. The micro-structure of the interface between Ti3AlC2 and Ti2AlC and Al2O3 made the system material have high self-healing ability at high temperature. In high temperature environment, the cracks or notches on the surface of the material are filled by the oxide, thus restoring the original properties of the material, especially the mechanical properties.
