Use:

  1. Solubility: insoluble in cold water, but swellable into rubber mass, insoluble in organic solvents, easily soluble in hot water into semi-transparent colloidal solution (dissolved in hot water above 70 °C;

 

  2, gelling: in the presence of potassium ions can generate heat reversible gel;

 

  3. Thickening: When the concentration is low, a low-viscosity sol is formed, which is close to the Newtonian fluid. When the concentration increases, a high-viscosity sol is formed, and then a non-Newtonian fluid appears.

 

  4. Synergy: Synergistic effects with colloidal locust bean gum, konjac gum, and xanthan gum can improve the elasticity and water retention of the gel;

 

  5, health value: carrageenan has the basic characteristics of soluble dietary fiber, in vivo degradation of carrageenan can form soluble complexes with fibrin. It can be digested by large intestine bacteria into CO2, H2, biogas and short chain fatty acids such as formic acid, acetic acid, and propionic acid, and become a source of energy for probiotics.

Application: The application of carrageenan in the daily chemical industry such as detergents and cosmetics: The detergent added with carrageenan is better than methyl cellulose in preventing the recontamination. In liquid detergents, their dispersion and storage properties can be improved. In cosmetics, since carrageenan is easily absorbed by the skin, emollients can be prepared by mixing it with glycerin.
