NADH and NAD+ are a pair of redox pairs in cells, NADH is a reduced form of coenzyme 1 NAD, and NAD+ is its oxidized form. In the redox reaction, NADH acts as a donor of hydrogen and electrons. NAD+ acts as a receptor for hydrogen and electrons and participates in physiological processes such as respiration, photosynthesis, and alcohol metabolism. They act as coenzymes for many redox reactions in living organisms and participate in life activities.
Under anaerobic conditions, the ATP produced by glucose metabolism is very small. Under aerobic conditions, NADH or FADH2 produced by glycolysis and the Krebs cycle can produce a large amount of ATP via oxidative phosphoric acid reaction. The amount of NADH is directly related to the amount of ATP produced, and the more NADH contained in each cell, the more energy is produced. The more energy the organ needs, the higher the amount of (or required) NADH it contains.
