Silicon dioxide/ Silica SiO2 is a light-weight white powder, odorless and tasteless, insoluble in water and acid, but soluble in hydrofluoric acid and hot alkali solution; chemically stable, does not react with most drugs.
Silicon dioxide has good fluidity and hygroscopicity. It is often used as a glidant for tablets to promote the fluidity of the material, especially when the powder is directly compressed. It is generally used as a glidant only 0.15% ~ 3%.
Silicon dioxide has a large specific surface area, which can reach 100-350 m2 / g, and is especially suitable for oils and extracts. It is still powdered when mixed with 1 to 2 times the oil.
