II Properties and application
? This product has extra-strong solvency, and is a biodegradable environmental friendly solvent with high boiling point. Dupont named it DBE while Solutia named it DME; it is a mixture of three kinds of solvents and is also known as dibasic ester (commonly called as Dimethyl nylon acid).
? The main components of this product are dimethyl succinate CH3OOC(CH2)2COOCH3 15-25%, dimethyl glutarate CH3OOC(CH2)3COOCH3 55-65% , and dimethyl adipate CH3OOC(CH2)4COOCH3 10-15%. The proportion of each component is adjustable.
? Non-toxic, colorless, transparent liquid with slight odour, b.p.196-225?, m.p.-20?, refractive index 1.4220 (23?), density 1.082 (23?), and flash point 100?.
? It is widely used in many different industries, such as: coil coatings, stoving varnish, tin/container coating, automobile coating, varnished wire coating, furniture coating and water-based paint, printing ink industry, resin industry, intermediate for organic synthesis, industrial cleaning machines and so on.

IV Package and storage
? Net weight 50 kg/plastic drum, 220kg/iron/plastic drum, 1200kg/IBC drum and bulk. Transportation according to normal liquid freight transportation restrictions.
? Stored in a dry, cool and ventilated place. Avoid violent collision and rain during handling and shipping. No special cautions in storage and can be stored in ordinary vessels. No corrosivity, no photochemical reactions, better to store in dark place.
? Non-harmful substance, low flammability, but can be ignited under excessive heat, flame or oxidizing agents.

Distinguished properties:
1. Non-toxic, slight odour, low water content; safety in use, non-hazardous substance.
2. Good stability, will not oxidize or resolve under normal storage conditions. It volatilizes very slowly under normal temperature, and the volatilization rate increases as temperature rises.
3. High boiling point and wide boiling range help to adjust the volatilization rate of the whole solvent system.
4. It has the property of high flash point and low vapour pressure. It has high combustion heat value; if being used as fuel, the combustion heat could reach 9000 BTU per pound.
5. DBE has good levelling property and can increase the gloss of coatings. If combined with titanium dioxide could increase the covering power, toughness and adhesion of the paint coating, and reduce defects such as pinholes, pearl eyes and volcanic craters.
6. Has extra-strong solvency and could be mixed with most of the organic solvents. Has favorable intermiscibility with polyurethane resins, acrylic resins, polyester resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins and so on.

DBE could replace the solvents such as:
DBE could replace isophorone;
DBE could replace cyclohexanone;
DBE could replace ethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate (CAC);
DBE could replace diacetone alcohol;
DBE could replace ethylene glycol monobutyl ether;
DBE could replace solvents such as cresol;
DBE could replace propylene glycol ether series solvents.

Main applications:
It is widely used in many different industries, such as: coil coatings, stoving varnish, metal decorating coating, automobile coating, varnished wire coating, carpentry coating and water-based paint, printing ink industry, resin industry, intermediate for organic synthesis, industrial cleaning, paint remover, adhesive of castings and so on..
1. Coil coating DBE can help to balance the volatilizing speed of the whole process and avoid the paint film popping or overbaking defects due to over-speed volatilization. DBE can endow the film with a smooth appearance, better toughness and post-deformability, and can also enhance the hiding power of the paint.
2. Stoving varnish industry DBE has particular volatility; when temperature increases, the volatilizing speed increases faster than that of other solvents, that is: volatilize slowly in the first half phase, and fast in the second phase, which benefits to the drying process. The solvent volatilization curve goes more smoothly, solvent volatilizes more equally, and is helpful to improve the levelling and gloss, and eliminate surface defects.
3. Metal decorating coating DBE could effectively replace isophorone and propylene glycol ether series solvents used in tins and container paint. The high solvency and low volatilizing rate helps the paint to gain better levelling, flexibility, adhesive.
