Zirconia Oxide Ceramic Ball (ZrO2)
Zirconia Oxide Ceramic Ball (ZrO2) bearings are kept in our stock series. Zirconia has the highest strength and toughness at room temperature of all the advanced ceramic materials. Zirconia oxide ball offers superior load bearing capability, easily polished to finer surface finishes.
Uses:
High precision zirconia balls are available in many sizes. Zirconia balls are most commonly used as check valves in flow control applications. When subject to stress by impact, grinding, or cracking, a zirconia ball undergoes “transformation toughening” which stops cracks from spreading and actually makes the ball stronger in the stressed area than what it was originally.
Corrosion Resistance:
Zirconia balls also feature resistance to abrasion and corrosion and are chemically inert to molten metals, organic solvents, caustics, and most acids. In addition, zirconia balls maintain high strength at temperatures up to 982ºC (1800 ºF). Some sizes are available from stock; others may be manufactured to your specifications.
