This siltimur, sil-timur berry, native to Nepal, is local named "Siltimur pepper". It is not a real pepper because it belongs to the lauraceae and not the piperaceae family. Its common names, identical to other berries from the Zanthoxylum family.

The dominant aroma is lemon and citronella, very fresh with intense fruitiness. To taste there is no anaesthetic effect, nor is it really spicy, the flavour is citrus - lemon, mandarin, candied citron, with spicy notes of camphor and a touch of menthol. The last taste is a mild and pleasant bitterness.

It is aromatic, spicy and carminative. Powder of roots and bark are used to relieve pain. Leaves and fruits are used in the treatment of skin diseases. Seeds are efficacious antidote.

Siltimur berry can be widely used in spices. Its essential oil can be used in many medicinal uses and other beneficial properties and It is used in Gastric and stomach ache. Locally, it is used while cooking mushroom in Europe and Asia.
